Washington State Poker Players Set To Lobby Legislature

Poker players from around the state are set to converge on the Washington State legislature to protest the current state law criminalizing real money internet poker playing. The law itself goes back to 2006 where the government amended the existing anti-gambling legislation to include the internet. Opponents had tried to get the courts to reverse the decision, however the law was recently upheld by the Washington Supreme Court and thus remains in full effect. Continue reading

Nevada Considering Regulating Online Gambling

The Nevada state legislature will soon be considering legislation that will seek to legalize and regulate internet gambling in their state. The new bill is said to be propelled by lobbying from PokerStars, who have retained the services of former Nevada politician and State Assembly speaker Richard Perkins. This is extremely interesting, as it had been assumed by most that if legislation such as this gets put into effect in the U.S., it would be limited to start-up ventures from large land based operations, running against large online gaming companies such as PokerStars.
